The
overfamiliarity with the fact that most English nouns either take "s",
"es", "ies" or "ves" as plural markers has posed a lot of problems among most second learners of English as they ignorantly
apply this standard rule to nouns that do not belong to this school of thought. A typical
example is the word, criteria. Criteria is the plural form of criterion, but in this part of the world where English is spoken
and learnt as a second language, you often hear its users say
"criterias". To this effect, this article provides the plural forms
of some English words that do not form their plural forms with any of the
aforementioned plural markers.
